Though labia come in countless shapes and sizes, all of them healthy and normal, some people nevertheless decide that they’d prefer a different look, and opt for labiaplasty. During this procedure, the surgeon can remove excess skin and tissue from the labia minora, or inner lips. This typically gives a smaller, more “tucked in” appearance. Understandably, you’ll want a surgeon you can trust to perform this procedure with care. A Medbelle surgeon is highly trained and will be able to walk you through the procedure, step by step.

Labiaplasty, also known as a “designer vagina” procedure, is a common and straightforward cosmetic surgical procedure where the labia (lips) of the vagina are reshaped or reduced in size. Whilst it is important to note that there is no “normal” labia size, some women find that larger labia can cause discomfort during exercise or sex, or cause self-consciousness when wearing close-fitting clothing like leggings or swimsuits.

Labiaplasty is carried out with either a local or sedative anaesthetic. You will typically not need to remain in hospital overnight, though in some cases an overnight stay may be required.

There are two main types of procedure. The simple trim or strip method involves using a scalpel or laser to trim away the edges of the labia. It’s best suited for women wanting to remove long, uneven edges.

The Wedge method involves removing a V-shaped wedge from the labia and joining the two remaining sections. This creates a more natural look post-surgery whilst achieving the same reduction outcomes as the Trim or Strip method.

In all cases, your surgeon will discuss your individual needs with you and help you decide the right process to help you achieve your desired outcome.

You will likely not need to stay in hospital overnight after your surgery.

While you will notice results immediately after surgery, the full aesthetic results of your procedure may not be visible until 6 months after surgery as the swelling goes down completely and scars settle and heal.
