Joseph Pooley

Joe Pooley is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with expertise in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, specializing in shoulder and elbow conditions. He graduated from Newcastle upon Tyne medical school and obtained an MD in 1984 for his groundbreaking research on bone circulation. Mr. Pooley has been recognized for his work with prestigious awards including the British Orthopaedic Research Society's medal, the British Orthopaedic Association prize, and the Robert Jones gold-medal. He has held various positions throughout his career, including Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic surgery and head of the University Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1997, he took up a consultant appointment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead to establish a specialized upper limb unit. In addition to his NHS role at Tyneside Surgical Services in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, Mr. Pooley is a member of esteemed professional organizations such as the Royal College of Surgeons, England, the British Orthopaedic Association, and the British Elbow Shoulder Surgery Society. He has published and presented his work extensively nationally and internationally and serves as a reviewer for scientific journals. Mr. Pooley is actively involved in GP seminars and training programs in the North East of England. His qualifications include an MB BS and an MD from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, as well as a fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons. Apart from his professional achievements, Mr. Pooley has personal interests in utilizing arthroscopy for the treatment of shoulder and elbow conditions. He has contributed to the development of innovative treatment systems for elbow arthritis, such as the iBP total elbow joint replacement and the Lateral Resurfacing elbow (LRE) system. Additionally, he continues to share his surgical techniques with orthopaedic surgeons both at home and abroad, demonstrating his expertise in the treatment of elbow arthritis and arthroscopic procedures.
