Though labia come in countless shapes and sizes, all of them healthy and normal, some people nevertheless decide that they’d prefer a different look, and opt for labiaplasty. During this procedure, the surgeon can remove excess skin and tissue from the labia minora, or inner lips. This typically gives a smaller, more “tucked in” appearance. Understandably, you’ll want a surgeon you can trust to perform this procedure with care. A Medbelle surgeon is highly trained and will be able to walk you through the procedure, step by step.

Your Labiaplasty in London
Labiaplasty, also known as a “designer vagina” procedure, is a common and straightforward cosmetic surgical procedure where the labia (lips) of the vagina are reshaped or reduced in size. Whilst it is important to note that there is no “normal” labia size, some women find that larger labia can cause discomfort during exercise or sex, or cause self-consciousness when wearing close-fitting clothing like leggings or swimsuits.
Labiaplasty is carried out with either a local or sedative anaesthetic. You will typically not need to remain in hospital overnight, though in some cases an overnight stay may be required.
There are two main types of procedure. The simple Trim or Strip method involves using a scalpel or laser to trim away the edges of the labia. It’s best suited for women wanting to remove long, uneven edges.
The Wedge method involves removing a V-shaped wedge from the labia and joining the two remaining sections. This creates a more natural look post-surgery whilst achieving the same reduction outcomes as the Trim or Strip method.
In all cases, your surgeon will discuss your individual needs with you and help you decide the right process to help you achieve your desired outcome.
You will likely not need to stay in hospital overnight after your surgery.
While you will notice results immediately after surgery, the full aesthetic results of your procedure may not be visible until 6 months after surgery as swelling goes down completely and scars to settle and heal.
London Labiaplasty: Frequently Asked Questions
It’s important to thoroughly research a procedure before making your decision. We’ve compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions to help you better understand what to expect when it comes to labiaplasty.
Will labiaplasty result in any visible scarring?
In all cases, scarring from labiaplasty should be very minimal. This is particularly the case with the Wedge method. Our expert surgeons will ensure any incisions fold naturally into the creasing of the skin, resulting in a natural look post-surgery.
How long will it take me to recover from labiaplasty?
While you will typically be able to go home on the day of your surgery, some procedures will require an overnight stay. Once you’re home you should avoid sports or sex for 8-10 weeks to allow your labia to heal. The sutures (stitches) used in your surgery will dissolve on their own.
Is labiaplasty recovery painful?
You will be given either a local or sedative anaesthetic depending on the exact nature of your procedure and the advice of your surgeon. In either case, you won’t feel anything during the procedure.
So long as you avoid activities that cause friction (e.g. exercise or sex) after your surgery, you should find that your recovery involves very little discomfort.
Will I experience any reduced sensitivity following my labiaplasty procedure?
Many women are understandably concerned about reduced sensation in this area, but you can rest assured that the treatment will not affect your sensitivity in any way. You’ll initially experience some numbing in the areas where the surgical incisions are made. This will reduce in time.
As with all aspects of labiaplasty, please don’t hesitate to discuss any concerns with your surgeon.
