After pregnancy or losing a large amount of weight, you may notice loose, unflattering skin around your tummy area. This can stop you from feeling comfortable in your day-to-day activities, wearing clothing styles you may want to try, or even impede your mobility. You don’t have to live with these issues. An abdominoplasty (also known as a tummy tuck) is a procedure which can give the stomach area a flatter appearance while repairing the underlying muscles.
Medbelle is pleased to offer our patients this procedure at a number of our UK clinics, including Liverpool.

Your Tummy Tuck in London

tummy tuck

If you are considering a tummy tuck in Liverpool, you might be wondering what can be achieved, as well as what’s involved. The procedure is designed to create a smoother, flatter abdomen. This could be following the result of extreme weight loss or pregnancy, which has left the skin very loose and stretched. It is not possible to remove this skin through diet or exercise alone, and so an abdominoplasty can resolve the issue.

A full tummy tuck will involve your surgeon making an incision around the belly button and along the bikini line. The skin is then lifted upwards to expose the abdominal muscles. Excess skin will be removed and the abdominal muscles will be made tighter. The remaining skin will then be pulled down and a new belly button created. This will give you a much flatter stomach area and a smaller waistline. Liposuction may also be used to remove excess fat from the abdominal cavity.

You should expect to have a 1-3 day stay in hospital, with a full recovery after about 6-8 weeks. The result will be a tighter, flatter looking stomach area. Some scarring will occur, but this will mostly be hidden under where your underwear or bikini normally sits.

Liverpool Tummy Tuck: Frequently Asked Questions

If you are considering an abdominoplasty in Liverpool, we know you are bound to have a lot of questions and this is not a problem! Here we will answer some of your top questions below.

  • Is a tummy tuck a good way to lose weight?

No, in fact, abdominoplasty helps tackle any excess skin around the abdomen that can be a result of factors like extreme weight loss, pregnancy, or even age. Though skin and fat are removed during the procedure, a tummy tuck should never be considered a weight-loss operation.

Be advised that if you gain or lose a significant amount of weight post-surgery, then this will reduce or possibly reverse your results. Therefore, you should only consider getting an abdominoplasty once your weight has stabilised and you are maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

  • How long does abdominoplasty surgery take?

A tummy tuck procedure will take between 2 to 4 hours.

After the operation, you should expect to spend up to 3 days in hospital before you are able to go home.

  • I’m thinking of getting pregnant after my abdominoplasty. Can I still have surgery?

It is not advisable to get pregnant after a tummy tuck procedure, as you will effectively be reversing the operation by re-stretching the stomach muscles. Therefore, you should complete your family before considering surgery.

Please note that an abdominoplasty is also only recommended for mothers who are 6 months postpartum, as this is how long it takes for the stomach muscles to recover following pregnancy.

  • How do I prepare for surgery, and what does the aftercare consist of?

Before getting abdominoplasty, you will have several consultations which will help prepare you for your operation. This includes all the information you will need in regards to eating and drinking as well as any existing medications you take.
